Petro Poroshenko net worth: Petro Poroshenko is a Ukrainian businessman and politician who has a net worth of $1.6 billion. Known as "the chocolate king" in Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko made his career beginnings selling cocoa beans. This helped him earn enough money to purchase several confectionery plants that later united them in confectionery manufacturing group, Roshen, in 1995. Poroshenko now works on the group's expansion across Europe, having bought a confectionery in Hungary last year. Outside of Roshen, he headed the Council of Ukraine's National Bank from February 2007 to March 2012. Poroshenko, who is a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been also actively involved in politics throughout his career. He got back to the statecraft in 2012 as a member of the Ukrainian Parliament and he has revealed his intention to run for mayor of Ukraine's capital Kiev.

From February 2007 till March 2012 Poroshenko headed the Council of Ukraine's National Bank.
Petro Poroshenko was in born in the city of Bolhrad, Odessa Oblast, on 26 September 1965. In 1989, he graduated with a degree in economics from the faculty of international relations and international law (subsequently Institute of International Relations) of the Kiev State University.
After graduation, Poroshenko started his own business selling cacao beans. In 1990s, he acquired control over several confectionery enterprises. Subsequently, he united his holdings in that indutstry into Roshen group, the largest confectionery manufacturer in Ukraine. The fortunes he made in the chocolate industry earned him a nickname a Chocolate King.
Now Poroshenko's business empire also includes several car and bus plants, Leninska Kuznya shipyard, a 5 kanaltelevision channel as well as other businesses.
In March 2012 Forbes placed him on the Forbes list of billionaires at the 1153rd place, with $1 billion.
Poroshenko first won a seat in Verkhovna Rada (the Parliament of Ukraine) in 1998. He was initially a member of United Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (SDPU(o)), the most loyal to president Leonid Kuchma political party at the time. Poroshenko left SDPU(o) in 2000 to create an independent left-of-center faction Solidarity, in 2001 Poroshenko was instrumental in creating Party of Regions, also loyal to Kuchma (Solidarity never joined Party of Regions however).
